all have the correct "Eagle 211" Waffenamt acceptance proofs with correct matching serial umbers. rear sight base, trigger guard, floor plate barrel bands etc. The side wall has the block "MOD 98", markings. The right and left sides of the receiver are correctly proofed with the early Mauser droop wing firing proofs with the correct "Eagle/211" Waffenamt proofs.
#Mauser k98 price code
The receiver is stamped: "S/243/1937" which is the secret wartime code for the Mauser/Borsigwalde factory over 1937 for the year of manufacture. This was an attempt by the German armaments ministry to develop wartime expedient materials and production methods to increase rifle manufacturing capability. These stocks/rifles were manufactured on a very limited experimental or test basis only by the Mauser Werke factory at Borsigwalde and it is estimated that only a few hundred in total were produced for field evaluation/testing. The barrel channel inside the stock and underside of the handguard are both correctly numbered "283" (matching).
The underside of the stock is correctly numbered (matching) "283/C" over a double Eagle/211 Waffenamt proof. This rifle is all correct and all original with an original "matching" numbered and proofed stock! The buttstock itself is correctly stamped on the right side below the takedown washer with a "Eagle/H" proof showing acceptance by the German Army over a double "Eagle WaA 211" acceptance proof, with an additional proof inside the pistol grip area. Probably because that one is isreal refurb. This is an extremely rare, pre-war K98 rifle that was manufactured by the Mauser factory that is fitted with one of the rare experimental/prototype Ureaformaldehyde (red plastic resin) stock and hand guard. 360, 400 BIN, dont see an X on the receiver so not sure if its a RC capture, nor does it have the Russian "Blue everything". There are other countrys who captured 98s did scratch markings off (like the Yugoslavians )Īs for the YUGO mausers, You can get a YUGO for a dime a dozen when comparing it to a true German WW2 98k., heck on EE a guy was selling nice looking ones for sub 230$ Russian put an X on the receiver, does it have a X on the reciever? they are repos that work fine, and will not degrade any value. Also the hood being missing is very common, IVAN took it off with the cleaning rod and melted it down for scape. I own a RC and have 3 in the family and all my markings are intact. I dont believe the Russians scratched the markings off, if they did its pretty uncommon. But scratched out markings go for less (thats nitt picking when considering its sub 300$),I would jump on it. This rifle was listed at $279.įor function, I was considering the Yugo, but always wanted an authentic German K98.īased on what I described, is $279 a decent price? Also, what else should I be looking for and/or inspecting?Ģ79$ is a good price.
Also, the hood for the front sight was removed. The German eagle markings had all been scratched off, but I could just barely make out the bottom portion of an eagle & swastika on the side of the receiver. The third that caught my eye was (what I believed to be) a Russian Capture K98. One was going for $299 and the other for $399. Two were Yugo M48As beautiful wood, metal, markings and crests.
I've had the Mauser itch real bad for a while now and since the wife treated herself to a $700 SLR camera for Mother's Day.I think its time to start looking for one.Īnyway, I came across three Mausers this weekend and almost went home with one.
